Today, I'm over at WildSpice talking about what it means to be a writer. It was just one year ago this month that I happened to send a piece to xoJane and, much to my surprise, it was published. That was a huge moment for me, and it's where my career started. I didn't realize at the time that it would change my life, but hitting send on that random email was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
But that doesn't mean I don't have nagging doubts about being a writer. I love it. It makes me so happy to be a writer, regardless of what assignment I'm working on. But at the same time, I went to school for something totally different, and deciding to head in a different direction was really difficult. Plus, writing has always been easy for me, and I worry sometimes that it's too easy to be a real job. I'm used to people telling me when I've qualified for something, but no one popped out of the woodwork to tell me I'm a writer, and that's been a very real struggle.
You can read the piece at WildSpice now!
