My latest piece for Literally, Darling is one that I'm pretty excited about, as it's about Iran. I wrote my thesis on Iran, spent seven years studying Iranian politics, and I never tire of learning and talking about the complex Islamic Republic. One of the most interesting pieces of recent Iranian history, to me at least, is their family planning program, which is currently being rolled back in an attempt to avoid a looming population crisis.
In this piece, I take aim at the way the West talks about Middle Eastern countries, reducing the complexity of issues to Orientalist stereotypes.
