Yesterday we were surprised to find that HBOGO is featuring the premiere episode of Cinemax's new show "The Knick." We had seen the ads around town while in New York earlier this month, and I was immediately into the idea of a creepy show about surgeons around the turn of the century. So naturally I was super excited to watch the first episode!
It definitely lived up to the creep-factor used in the ads. The surgery theater -- what a nightmare factory! And the crispness of the nurses' uniforms with the strangely small hats perched on their heads is an image I keep seeing in my mind and it freaks me out! The music manages to get into your chest in a way that reminds me of "American Horror Story." I love anything that looks like it's been filtered through an early Tim Burton lens or like everyone and everything is just barely covered in coal dust. The beauty of the architecture, the grit of the street, and the tragically flawed hospital staff all create this incredible sense of foreboding, and I wish I could see the rest of the series! Sadly, we don't have Cinemax.
Have you watched "The Knick?" What did you think?
